A striking table lamp by the Duffner & Kimberly Company of New York, active from 1905 until the firm's dissolution in the early 1910s. Duffner & Kimberly was formed by lighting manufacturer Frank J. Duffner and stained-glass designer Oliver S. Kimberly, previously of Tiffany Studios, and the firm is regarded today as one of the strongest competitors to Tiffany in leaded glass lamp production of the period.
This example features a conical shade radiating in caramel and butterscotch slag glass panels from a pierced brass heat cap, bordered by a geometric band of amber, honey, and rose-toned cabochon glass tiles set in a brick-like pattern. The shade sits atop a tapering brass standard with a reeded urn socket cluster and dual pull chains, on a stepped circular base.
Duffner & Kimberly lamps are increasingly sought after by collectors of American Arts & Crafts lighting, given the firm's short production run and the quality of its glasswork.
