A striking matched pair of tall floor vases by the Galloway Terra Cotta Company of Philadelphia, one of America’s most celebrated makers of art and garden pottery. Each has a clean cylindrical body under a bold scalloped collar, set off by a raised band. The form is distinctly Art Deco: architectural, rhythmic and refined.
Both are finished in a soft aqua glaze with gentle tonal variation and pooling at the edges, the kind of depth Galloway’s glazes are prized for. At 21" tall, they have real presence. Use them to flank a doorway, fireplace or console, fill them with branches or tall dried stems, or use them as planters indoors or on a covered porch.
Matched Galloway pairs at this scale are increasingly hard to find. These would suit an Art Deco, mid-century, traditional or eclectic interior equally well.
