A striking mid-century studio ceramic table lamp attributed to Marianna von Allesch or Design Technics (the New York ceramic studio founded by Lee Rosen), two of the era's most celebrated names in hand-glazed art pottery lighting. The cylindrical body is finished in a rich, hand-applied drip glaze — bands of glossy sea-green pooling over deep chocolate-brown and warm cream, with the glaze running and layering unevenly for a one-of-a-kind, organic surface typical of both makers' studio work. Polished brass fittings frame the ceramic body at the neck and base, and the lamp is topped with a vintage milk glass diffuser shade in a reeded cone form that glows warmly when lit.

Both von Allesch and Design Technics were part of the postwar American studio pottery movement centered in New York, prized today for their sculptural forms and expressive, painterly glazework — pieces that elevate lighting to functional art. This example is a wonderful representative of that mid-century ceramic lighting tradition.

  • Dimensions:
    Height: 26 in (66.04 cm)
    Diameter: 8.5 in (21.59 cm)

Wear consistent with age and use. The brass has some patina but the ceramic base is in perfect condition.
